CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR ENGINEERING
Welding in Ethiopia is managed in Ethiopia’s Center of Excellence for Engineering and Welding Training and Technology Center, established in April 2010 by Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Capacity Building (MoCB) with the goal to overcome problems of manufacturing engineering specifically welding which is characterized by low productivity, low quality and low competitiveness.
The fundamental reason for the establishment of National welding training center was to overcome chronic problems of metal work in manufacturing and construction engineering specifically in the area of welding and to become a National Welding Training Institute. This is the main goals why the center was established.
The Federal Technical & Vocational Education & Training, Center of Excellency for Engineering is a department under the proposed Ethiopian National Welding Training Institute. CEE has in the last few years been involved in the conduct of welding training and certification for TVET centers applying IIW’s welder guidelines on MMA, MAG, TIG and Gas welding. The Centre is currently working towards final accreditation as a training body.
Welding demand in Ethiopia: 4000 welders (fillet, plate and tube welders) demanded for GTP2(2020) and 10,1000 welders for GTP3 (2025) Courses Offered at CEE:
- SMAW Welding (Structural and Pipe)
- GMA Welding (Basic, Structural and Pipe)
- GTAW Welding (Basic, Structural and Pipe)
- OXY-FUEL (Basic, Structural and Pipe)
CEE is currently establishing alliances and collaborations to deepen technical depth in its range of courses and offer recognizable certificates across industries in the African continent.
