CENTRAL METALLURGICAL R&D INSTITUTE
Welding in Egypt Welding in Egypt is managed by few institutions including mainly Central Metallurgical R&D Institute (CMRDI) that is affiliated to Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. CMRDI has over 35years leading research experience in the field of Welding Technology, NDT, Failure Analysis & Trouble Shooting, Preventive & Emergency Maintenance as well as Third Party Inspection. Research fields include Arc Welding, Resistance Welding, Laser Materials Processing, Laser-Hybrid Welding and Friction Stir Welding of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
In addition to highly qualified staff, CMRDI is comprehensively equipped with both conventional and non-conventional welding facilities including arc welding, resistance welding and laser beam welding. Non-destructive testing facilities include PT, MT, UT, RT, ET, Phase Array, Portable XRF Chemical Analyzer, Portable Spectrometer, Portable Hardness Tester, and Microstructure Investigation using Replica Technique.
CMRDI provides technical support to concerned industries through different approaches including Technology Transfer, Training & Qualification, Third Party Inspection, Failure Analysis & Trouble Shooting, and Evaluation of Plant Equipment.
CMRDI offers both regular and tailored training courses in the field of welding technology, welding metallurgy and non-destructive testing for technicians, engineers, and inspectors from different Egyptian industries. During the past 35 years, training activities have been extended to the African and Arab countries with over 300 engineers from 25 African countries trained and qualified within a tripartite cooperation between CMRDI, JICA-Japan and Egyptian fund for technical cooperation with Africa. In addition, 250 engineers from different Arab countries have been trained and qualified by CMRDI.
